Palliative Care Options for Chronic Diseases
Integration of Palliative Care Approaches for Patients with Serious Chronic Diseases
This rapid review aims to synthesize scientific evidence on effective strategies to integrate pre-end-of-life palliative care for patients with serious chronic diseases (including cancer).
The Public Health Agency of Canada estimates that 65% of deaths are attributable to a major chronic disease each year. Health system decision-makers in Newfoundland and Labrador are particularly concenred about the impact of chronic disease on population health and health system sustainability since more than half of the residents (aged 12 years and older) have at least one chronic disease. Findings from this rapid review will provide evidence-based information to the health systems decision-makers in Newfoundland and Labrador on how to effectively integrate palliative care for patients with serious chronic diseases.
