Martha Paynter is a registered nurse working in reproductive and maternal health care. She is a Doctoral Candidate in the School of Nursing at Dalhousie University, where her dissertation examines the reproductive health of incarcerated and criminalized women. Ms. Paynter’s research interests include reproductive justice issues such as medical abortion, breastfeeding and access to human milk. She is the founder of Women’s Wellness Within, a non-profit organization in Nova Scotia that advocates for women and trans/nonbinary individuals experiencing criminalization. Martha is also funded by the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation Doctoral Scholarship, CIHR Banting-Best Doctoral Scholarship, and the Canadian Nurses Foundation.
