Project Title Engaging Métis citizens in Manitoba in the development of child health resources
Funding Duration 2019-2020
Award Value $10,000
Proposed Method/Science Qualitative – Participatory Research with trauma-informed intersectional analysis
Project Summary The 2015 Truth and Reconciliation Commission called for a need to close the gap in access to appropriate healthcare services for Indigenous communities. This participatory research project with a trauma-informed intersectional analysis will create knowledge that will be used to inform the co-creation of child health resources for Métis parents based on both Western and Indigenous knowledge. Meetings across Manitoba will serve as a platform for stakeholder engagement and participant identification, serving as a means to obtaining input from stakeholders for the aim of research question framing and prioritization.
Anticipated Impact Findings will create new knowledge for researchers and the Manitoba Métis Federation on inclusive engagement practices with individuals who may face barriers to accessing healthcare and/or are traditionally less heard in research. This knowledge will be used by the applicant to inform the co-creation of child health resources for Métis parents based on both Western and Indigenous knowledge.
